Boulder JFS believes in strengthening the community by providing vital services to people in need. Every day, JFS helps people overcome difficult life challenges to reach their full potential. Boulder JFS helps older adults maintain a high quality of life through programs and services that keep them supported, connected, and engaged. Services include care management, counseling, companionship, emergency assistance, and holiday celebrations. JFS serves people of all faiths, races, ages, incomes, and abilities.

  • Care Management—Supporting access to a continuum of services that help older adults live in their community of choice.
  • Emergency Assistance—Providing financial assistance to older adults and people with disabilities so they may remain housed.
  • Friendly Visitor and Para-chaplain Program—Pairing a Friendly Visitor volunteer with an older adult to promote meaningful friendships and prevent social isolation.
  • Holiday Services—Trained volunteers conduct Shabbat and holiday celebrations at residential communities, giving residents an important connection to their faith.

Meet the Boulder JFS Staff:

Kammi Siemens, MSW

Kammi Siemens, MSW, is the associate director of Boulder Jewish Family Service. She is responsible for providing leadership and vision that expand the collaborative nature of Boulder JFS while increasing the impact of Boulder programs and services. Kammi is skilled at facilitating partnerships among nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and policy makers to implement creative, results-based solutions to entrenched social challenges. She most recently served as community funding manager for the Boulder Department of Human Services and was the director of financial wellness for Goodwill Industries International. Kammi has spent her career devoted to advancing social, educational, and economic opportunity for individuals, children, and families.

Being a Boulder County resident and CU graduate, Kammi’s contribution to the Boulder community is personal. She is inspired by the opportunity to advance JFS programs that are built on compassion, inclusion, and social justice.

Melissa Thompson, MSW

Melissa Thompson is a counselor and care manager for Boulder JFS. She is passionate about assisting older adults, adults with disabilities, and their families as they navigate life’s challenges. Melissa focuses on developing achievable goals with clients to help meet their needs and to improve the quality of their lives.

Melissa earned a master’s degree in social work at Colorado State University in 2002. She has served as a care manager, counselor, and supervisor in social service agencies for over 15 years.Melissa utilizes an empowering approach that is rooted in compassion and centered on the unique wishes of each person. She has developed a deep understanding of the difficulties faced by older adults and their loved ones through her personal experiences as a caregiver and through her extensive professional experience in health care, mental health, and long- term care settings. Melissa believes wholeheartedly in the importance of embracing positive change for continued growth at all stages of life.

Melissa’s warmth and humor make her an adept public speaker and educator. Her focus areas include aging, end-of-life care, trauma, dementia, and caregiving stress, as well as grief and loss. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Aging Life Care Association.
